SANTE FE, N.M.—Two healthcare unions, legislators and patients will headline a rally on Friday at the state capital to support the New Mexico Patient Safety Act, which limits the number of patients a nurse can care for on a shift to improve patient outcomes.
“This Valentine’s Day, the best way to show love and care for patients is for the Legislature to pass safe patient staffing levels,” said Regina Hite McGinnis, president of the United Health Professionals of New Mexico.
“We need safe patient staffing ratios so that patients aren’t placed in harm’s way and nurses don’t burn out,” said Yolanda Ulmer, CEO of District 1199NM.
